Obsessions Are Fun!
Aug. 30th, 2004 08:22 pmThanks to the wonders of
mst3k and eeeeeeeeeeevilBay, I now have Volume Five of Mystery Science Theater 3000 on DVD. I just spent the past couple of days watching my way through it. It's all episodes from the Sci-Fi Channel era, which I'd never seen originally, so it took a little bit of adjusting to things like different mad scientists and Crow's voice seeming a little odd. But the host segments are just dressing for the big meaty part that is THE BAD MOVIE. And boy, oh, boy, they had some stinkers in this one. I mean, I am an aficionado of Truly And Utterly Bad Films, (which is why I love MST3K so much--it's like watching a bad movie with three sassy friends) but I don't think I could have survived some of these films without Mike and the 'bots to ease the pain.
In other news, the new single by Duran Duran (Reach Up For the Sunrise) is out in the world, not that Atlanta radio would make you aware of it. There's also a video making the rounds of the internet, and a few downloads later it's happily ensconced on my computer and I've been playing it repeatedly. Nick Rhodes looks delectable, even squooshed into a silly little spaceship the size of a Yugo. I have no clue if it's going to make the slightest impact on MTV, but one can always hope for the best. My inner-15-year old is getting very yelpy and squealy about the whole thing.
DragonCon is coming up this weekend and my sister and her family are coming down for it. She's also scammed me a guest membership, so I'll be able to mingle with the geek types in between work. I know at least one of my co-workers is going--it should be interesting should I encounter her out of context. But DragonCon's a big place, so there's no telling, really.
The Internet is sucking my brains out again. Bad Internet! Naughty Internet! *spank spank* No biscuit! It's frighteningly easy to lose hours on end clicking through things and seeing if anybody's responded to your clever comments on some message board or another. Or even your LiveJournal. Today is pretty much shitcanned, but tomorrow I'll see about actually doing stuff before giving my brain to broadband. Wish me luck.

Date: 2004-08-30 05:30 pm (UTC)Apparently in MSTie fandom, the Joel vs. Mike thing is a bit like the Andy vs Warren thing in Duranieland--one of those things that nobody dares speak of, lest it torch off a massive flame war.
