wonderbink: The outline of a star surrounded by tiny (illegible) writing (thefuck (by lannacht))
Okay, people, is it just me, or has the past week or so been plagued by problems with communication? I mean, obviously the big one is LJ and the crazy fandom people duking it out over the legal definition of obscenity.

Poor LJ. They can't win, can they?

Right-wing nutjob: You're hosting pedophiles! I'm telling!

LJ: *freaks out and deletes every single journal with 'pedophilia', 'incest' and 'lolita' as an interest.*

Fandom: Hey! Where' s my porn? *spams news with angry comments, sings pirate songs*

LJ: Whoops, sorry about that. *undeletes journals* We'll try to be a little clearer in future.

[a few months later]

LJ: Hi, here are some guidelines to think about, only we're going to post them on [livejournal.com profile] lj_biz, which nobody reads, and we're going to post them while fandom is too wrapped up in the countdown to the Potterdamerung to even care. Okay?

Fandom: *is too wrapped up in the countdown to the Potterdamerung to even care*

LJ: All righty, then! *starts reviewing journals and deleting ones that could be viewed as obscene under current federal law*

Fandom: WHAT THE SHIT!!

LJ: Well, you told us to look at things first, and we did. And we decided that these didn't fit the guidelines we casually mentioned, particularly regarding the Literary, Artistic, Political or Scientific value that explicit material needs under the Miller Test to avoid being considered obscene.

Fandom: *huffily* What, so you're all ART critics, now?

So, yeah.

Meanwhile, Neil Gaiman is feeling grumpy because of journalists who are misquoting and misunderstanding things.

And yesterday, my phone didn't let me know that I'd gotten a certain text message from Mr. TBH the way it usually does, which means I spent about six hours unnecessarily freaking out until I went to check something and found the message.

And don't even get me started on arguments over words, definitions and implications.

The usual routine is to blame Mercury for going retrograde, but it's not due for that again until, like, October or something. (I only really notice when somebody mentions it on [livejournal.com profile] metaquotes.) Is this just a me thing? Is anybody else having this problem? Is there something in the air, something in the water? Or am I just imposing patterns here?

Today I took pleasure in finding out the book I ordered from Amazon--20 Master Plots and How To Build Them--had arrived.

Today I learned how to render my entire journal into lolcat form.
