Back from exile
Apr. 24th, 2006 10:09 pmSo, um, yeah. I quit the internet and books cold turkey for a week. It hurt. I spent most of the weekend on the internet, reading about the Lori Jareo debacle that's been pinging all over the blogosphere like the Ultimate Blonde Joke. (Google "Lori Jareo" for all the best stuff on it.)
Short version--Ms. Jareo writes a novel length Star Wars fanfic. Then proceeds to use her own publishing company to put it out and slap an ISBN on it, making it available at Amazon, Barnes and Noble, and other fine book-dispensing websites. In an "interview" on her (now-deleted) website, she claims that since only her family and friends know about it, this copyright thing isn't a problem.
*sporfle*
In light of this and of other such internet kerfuffles that have come up recently, I have hereby formulated Rule #79.
Rule #79: If you don't want the entire world to know about something, don't post it on the internet.
Seriously. Just don't. Keep it in your desk drawer if you don't want people prying. You will save yourself much agony. Trust me on this one.
Today I took pleasure in steamed milk and honey at Apres Diem.
Today I learned more about the electronic filing of bankruptcy documents.
