Heck with politics, have a meme!
Nov. 4th, 2008 05:08 am1. Stop talking about politics for a moment or two.
2. Post a reasonably-sized picture in your LJ, NOT under a cut tag, of something pleasant, such as an adorable kitten, or a fluffy white cloud, or a bottle of booze. Something that has NOTHING TO DO WITH POLITICS.
3. Include these instructions, and share the love.
I give you . . . Nick Rhodes juggling!

Pleasure and learning later, too early in the AM for that.

Date: 2008-11-05 07:22 am (UTC)And then I posted a LOLcat.
Really, I was so burnt out after slogging for the Gore and Kerry campaigns that I had a lot of cynicism about the results, and am not entirely surprised that GA went red; I've been far too wary to post bumperstickers or signs on my property for fear of vandalism. Wearing an Obama button = magnet for evangelical RAEG and entirely too personal and intrusive questioning and lectures from the ignorant who get all their news from FOX. Seriously, fuck off, old angry white person, I am here to buy some pot pies and cat chow.
Also, there was some unannounced voting precinct juggling within the last 2-3 weeks. I've voted at a church up the road or by absentee ballot for 12 years, and 2-3 weeks ago, my voting reg card and the Internet both said that was where I needed to go, and sometime after I double-checked, they swapped precincts on me.
Now, luckily, I was driving and was running errands mid-day. What IF I were coming from a job, got stuck in line until after the polls closed, and THEN was told the brand new polling site for me was actually across the street (which it was: two precincts about 100 yards away from each other! One on one side of a two lane road, one on the other, with my old precinct having a grand total of about 500 people, 180 of which already voted early, so WHY the new precinct so close to Election Day? What IF I was stuck riding the bus or begging a lift from others, and had to wait for the next bus, which can be up to an hour to an hour and a half along some routes?
Absolutely ridiculous that they'd do this sort of thing, as it just causes problems for the members of the general public who can't afford to take a day off from work, or drive their own car. It is fortunate that my new precinct was so nearby and that I could drive. I am wondering how much RAGE I am going to hear about tomorrow from other parts of town or the state if this was a widespread and equally un-publicized deal state-wide.
Had Obama lost, you KNOW there would be some outrage, and it would be fairly earned. If the Republicans rage over it, I don't blame them one bit.

I'm still a bit stunned, but enormously relieved.

P.S. Love that icon. LOL. So good.

Date: 2008-11-07 11:05 pm (UTC)Think there was a splash of blue down at your end of the map, actually. So you may have had more people on your side than you realized.
And, yes, Florida went blue! Friend of mine went down to Miami to work on the campaign and did loads of door-knocking. It's heartening to know that his efforts and the efforts of those like him paid off.
