wonderbink: The outline of a star surrounded by tiny (illegible) writing (21st century (by et13_icons))

So I'm at the Highland Inn Ballroom waiting to see The Pinx, and I figure I'll get some LJ in while I'm here.

Let's see, since I last posted it was at [livejournal.com profile] docwhoopee's yard sale. I went from there to the Silver Scream Spook Show presentation of Carnival of Souls at the Plaza Theater. The wacky sketches and burlesque dancing beforehand went with an Evil Circus theme, even though that's not really what the film is about. While it was great to see it on the big screen, it was not so great to see it with a theater full of drunk hipsters who like to shout things at the screen. Granted, there are some films that deserve that treatment (I don't think I'd be able to withstand The Room otherwise, for example) but I personally don't think Carnival of Souls is one of those films. Yes, it's low-budget and a little stagy, but it's also a deeply chilling work if you give it the space to creep up on you. Though, admittedly, by the end of it the derisive comments had died down and the moments of uncomfortable silence grew longer. My sister-in-law tells me that the kiddie matinee shows are actually better for when you want to see the film wIthout the commentary. I'll have to give it a try sometime.

By the way, I have no clue why LJApp suddenly decided that the letter I must be in caps at all times, so if I miss a few while editing, that's why.

So. The rest of my week has been largely consumed with a couple of Word Art projects, one which I hope to have finished in time to show to people at Rock and Roll Monster Bash on Sunday. I have quite a Saturday in front of me, suffice to say.

Today I went with Mom and Dad to the High Museum to see what pretty much amounted to an upscale car show, with examples of high-end automotive design from the 1930s through the 1950s. We also caught the member preview of the show on European design and let's just say we were glad we caught it on the way out instead of coming all the way to see it.

We had a lovely dinner in a restaurant with some of the crummiest art I have seen hanging on walls in quite some time. I took a nap at the parents' house before venturing out. Which brings me about to here...

Today I took pleasure in a chicken sandwIch with bacon.

Today I learned some nifty facts about cars that I may or may not retain.
