So Friday night I was figuring on another evening of DVD-watching, but I did a quick check of Creative Loafing to see if I was going to be missing anything and found out that Eyedrum was having a fundraising shindig that I decided to check out. I'm glad I did. It was a lovely evening of wine, cheese, noisy kinetic sculpture, engaging conversation, acrobatic poetry, burlesque dance and weird music. The highlight was probably a lad with a resemblance to Orlando Bloom with long dark hair and a vintage tuxedo--not only did he get up on stage and sing opera (with a few bum notes that he blushed about) but then he stripped down to his skivvies and socks and showed off a very nice body. I flirted with him to no avail, but it was good to keep in practice.

Today I pulled out the recipe book that my mom put together and made myself a batch of split pea soup with ham. I picked up the ingredients while doing my usual Saturday routine (mailbox, lotto tickets, Indian eyebrow torture) but was nearly home when I realized I'd forgotten the ham. I swung by Shield's Market and picked up a couple of frozen ham hocks, which I thawed by boiling in the pot to create a little broth to make the soup with. Split pea soup takes several hours to cook, but it's nice because it fills the whole kitchen with the smell of impending food. I ate early so I could get my Catholic business out of the way this evening, since [livejournal.com profile] docwhoopee is up in Nashville-or-something running another Potato Man competition this weekend. (It's a competition that's sort of the flip side of the Iron Man. Where Iron Man is swimming, biking and running, Potato Man is pool, darts, bowling, air hockey and miniature golf.)

Tonight, I'm going out to check out the housewarming of the new HQ for Degenerate Press. Should be an adventure, since the only person I definitely know I'll know there is the host himself. But it should be a cool crowd.

Today I took pleasure in a successful pot of soup.

Today I learned where more of my kitchen items were stored. (Yay dishes! Yay pots!)
