wonderbink: The outline of a star surrounded by tiny (illegible) writing (eddie! (by vayshedruvon))
So my weekend was filled with poetry and paint. Friday night I went to Eyedrum for an evening of poetry and performance in memoriam of the anniversary of the 1906 Atlanta race riots (a rather gruesome chapter of Atlanta history that is little spoken of--basically mobs of white people, incited by inflammatory newspaper coverage, went out and beat, stabbed and shot any black person they could get their hands on.) The performances ranged from watchable to brilliant and the opening ceremony was incredibly moving.

Saturday I pretty much spent the day painting the living room while my brother [livejournal.com profile] docwhoopee dismantled and reassembled my closet door frame so the door could be hung to swing outward instead of inward. Saturday evening, I took in even more poetry at Composition Gallery, where Collin Kelly and Rupert Fike were featuring--both very good poets that I know from the Java Monkey scene. Afterwards, I went to The Vortex with Tim, another guy I know from Java Monkey, and indulged in a big, stupid cheeseburger.

Sunday I went to Sears and purchased a new washer and dryer with the guidance of my mother, who knows her laundry. A few hours later, I got an automated call from my credit card company, wanting to know if I'd made that exceedingly large charge on my Visa. I reassured the automatic voice with a few button presses that yes, that was me who had put that thousand dollars on the card. I spent the rest of the day doing laundry (in the parental washer and dryer) and went out to Java Monkey that evening to see my friend Dennis (alias Mr. Boom!) feature and host the poetry reading there, while Kodac featured at the Apache Cafe. Dennis has a new gallery and performance space in the works, and I'm looking forward to seeing it.

Today I did a little priming of the closet frame and a second coat of paint on the accent wall in the living room. It also looks like I'll need to do a second coat on the corner. Dang. But, then, I probably won't be moving until November, since the parentals will be out of the country for much of October, so I'll be spending that month packing, I think.

Today I took pleasure in a really hilarious video on YouTube. (If you're a Duranie, it's twice as funny.)

Today I learned that Linda Rondstadt really enjoyed working with the Muppets.
