I seem to have a new hobby, beading. Today, to get my feet wet, I restrung a couple of necklaces that have been kicking around my dresser for years.
This one was my grandmother's. The string--actual string--broke 20+ years ago. I kept the beads, of course, but never got around to having it restrung. Now it is.
I think the beads are some kind of plastic, or possibly ceramic. Not valuable, in other words, but I like the necklace and the associations.
This other one I don't recognize; I found it in a box on my dresser when I was looking for the other one. No idea where it came from or how long I've had it. It doesn't look like my grandmother's style, somehow, although I suppose it could be. And I don't think I've ever worn it, because it's not my style either.
The beads feel like metal; they're a very dark gray except for the center heart, which is black. (The gold-ish highlights are reflections from the flash on my camera.) I replaced the clasp on this one because I hate lobster clasps. I suppose I could have re-used the original one, since I probably won't be keeping the necklace.
